My Lord, forgive me, my parents, whoever enters my house as a believer, and the believing men and believing women

Surah Nuh (71:28)

Every soul shall taste death...

Every soul will taste death. And you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection.
— Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:185

At East Birmingham Central Masjid, we understand the pain and emotional burden that comes with the passing of a loved one. The Funeral Committee (Central Death Committee) has been established to provide financial assistance and supportive services to members and their immediate families during bereavement.

This initiative is rooted in the Islamic spirit of brotherhood and mutual care, helping ease the burden in times of grief.

Purpose of the Funeral Committee

The main goal of the Funeral Committee is to ensure financial support for the member, their spouse, and dependents in the event of a family bereavement.

Who Can Join?

  • All Muslims residing in East Birmingham and surrounding areas are eligible for membership.

  • Membership is open to individuals and families, and runs on an annual basis, starting from the date of joining.

  • Membership Rules & Renewal

  • Membership renewal is required annually within 30 days of expiry.

  • Members who are abroad are granted a 30-day grace period to renew.

  • Failure to renew results in cancellation of membership and loss of entitlement to benefits.

  • Members are responsible for notifying the committee of new dependents.

  • Coverage Includes

  • One spouse and all children under the age of 16.

  • Children turning 16 must pay their own membership fee within 30 days to continue coverage.

  • After the death of a member, their widow/widower and children (under 16) remain covered if the renewal fees are paid.

  • In Case of Remarriage or Divorce

  • Divorced spouses retain individual membership status.

  • In case of remarriage, the new spouse must pay a joining fee to become a member.

  • If remarriage occurs and no joining fee is paid for the new spouse, they will not be covered, though the original spouse and children will remain covered.

  • Youth Members

  • Children of members who turn 16 become eligible to apply in their own right as members by paying the annual fee.

  • For Members Abroad

  • Members living outside the UK remain eligible for benefits, as long as the membership is renewed on time.

⚠️ Important Conditions

  • If a member passes away within the first year of joining, the family will not be eligible for benefits, unless the death is sudden or accidental.

  • All applicants must declare any existing medical conditions during registration. Failure to disclose may result in denial of claims if the cause of death relates to an undeclared condition.

  • In case the Funeral Committee’s funds are exhausted, all members will be asked to contribute collectively to cover any shortfall.

📑 Required Documentation (at the time of registration)

  • Valid Passport (and visa if applicable).

  • Proof of address (if not available, address on the form will be used).

  • Conversion Certificate, if applicable.

  • Two Muslim male witnesses with valid ID.

  • Declaration of dependents and any medical conditions.

  • Signed Dowry Agreement not required here, but necessary for Nikah applicants (for those applying for both).

🛑 Legal Note

  • Please note that this is not a life insurance policy or legal estate coverage. It is a community-based, mutual-aid scheme rooted in Islamic principles. We encourage every member to make arrangements for Islamic will writing and to also register their death wishes with local authorities or family members.
